VUDM2 Mathematics 2, Web-Based


Mathematics is an important aspect of our culture, both as a science and as a tool in a variety of fields, including other sciences. Mathematics also plays a major role in many forms of creative activity. Consequently, mathematics is a major subject in primary and secondary schools as well as in the general teacher-education. In learning mathematics while studying to become teachers, students will meet the subject in a variety of contexts. In addition to honing their teaching skills and understanding of mathematics, we will emphasise the nature of the subject and the teaching of mathematics.

The target areas are described in greater detail in the National Curriculum for General Teacher Education (1999), which is to be followed up with subsequent adjustments.

The study programme consists of two modules; each of 15 ECTS credits each. Module 1 covers calculus and didactics, and module 2 covers statistics, probability and didactics. The modules may be taken separately. Both modules run over a whole academic year, and conclude with a written final examination in May/June. Refer to the course descriptions of the two modules for more information.

Teaching and Learning Methods

The study programme is a Web-Based distance-learning course of studies. The study programme uses course materials sent by mail and communication by Internet.

Assessment Methods

Each module is allocated a separate grade based on work in subject didactics that counts 20%, and a written examination that counts 80%.

Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean
