Target Group and Admission Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration provides students with a general education that may provide many openings in the job market. The study programme is therefore adapted for several target groups.

To be accepted for the programme, students must meet general admission requirements or have prior experiential learning.

Aim of the Programme

The study programme is interdisciplinary and professionally oriented, and qualifies successful candidates for a variety of posts within business and management. Completion of the 3-year study programme will qualify students for a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. The Bachelor’s degree also provides a basis for entrance to further study at Master’s level. If the course of study is terminated after 2 years, the student will receive the title of College Candidate in Business Administration.

The main intention of the study programme is to qualify candidates to carry out financial and administrative functions in the private or public sectors.

This goal will be achieved through:

  • problem-based learning and the active use of ICT which will provide knowledge and understanding of all the important subjects within economics and administration.
  • insight into new economic relationships, important decision-making situations, environmental conservation and ethics.
  • qualification for further studies in Norway and abroad.

Students may take elective courses in order to meet the educational requirements for certification as bookkeepers. It is also possible to modify the study programme during the 2nd or 3rd year of study to meet the theoretical requirements for becoming a certified accountant. Please refer to the 3-year Bachelor’s study programme in Accountancy. The Bachelor’s degree programme will provide a good foundation for further study at other institutions in Norway and abroad.

Successful candidates will be qualified for admission to Master’s degree programmes in Norway and abroad.

The 3-year study programme is divided into two units of 120 ECTS and 60 ECTS = 180 ECTS credits. The two first years of the programme are equivalent to the 2-year programme in Business Administration.

During the last year of the Bachelor’s programme students may choose from several alternatives:
1) The student may choose one of the following supplementary programmes: 1-year programme in Tourism Studies; 1-year programme in International Marketing or the 1-year programme in Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

2) The student may choose the 1-year programme in Certified Accountancy (3rd year). In order to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy meet the requirements for certified accountants, the study programme must be completed in accordance with the 3-year Accountancy study programme.

3) During the last year of study students may select optional courses (see above) in accordance with their own interests and from the courses available in accordance with the model with 30 ECTS credits specialisation and 30 ECTS study profile, 60 ECTS credits in total. The area of specialisation will build on the courses taken during the first two years of study; the student may choose study profile courses from a subject area which are included in the study programme or courses from the supplementary programmes.

However, students have to take into account the course and examination timetables when choosing courses in order to avoid any practical difficulties that may occur.

Optional courses

The study programme offers suggestions for the choice of optional courses. Students may freely choose optional courses within the university college’s study programme; for a list of courses available, see also other study programmes at the university college. However, the study programme timetable and examination plan may restrict this choice. In some contexts, it will be important to make sure you choose the right optional courses in order to enable you to gain admission to other study programmes.

Teaching and Learning Methods

Varied teaching and learning methods will be used in the courses which are included in the study programme, including: lectures, seminars, group assignments, individual assignments and study trips. Traditional teaching methods may be supplemented by active use of e-mail, online learning and data based model tools.

Assessment Methods

Candidates’ knowledge of all the courses in the study programme will be evaluated. The university college will use a variety of assessment methods. The types of assessment used are explained in the individual course descriptions.
