# 5550 Statistics I

## Course Objectives

Statistics or statistical methods play a constantly increasing role in most scientific fields. In analyses of specific problems, statistical methods are often applied to collected data, which is considered relevant to the problem. The goal of the course is to provide students with an understanding of the principal concepts and ideas in probability calculations and statistical analysis.

## Course Description

The course is divided into two components: Stochastic variables and statistical analysis. Both discrete (binomical, hypergeometric- and Poisson-distribution) and continuous probability distribution (normal distribution) will be addressed. Statistical analysis will include estimation, confidence interval, hypothesis testing and regression.

## Learning Methods

4 hours of lectures per week in the spring semester.

## Assessment Methods

Written examination, 4 hours

*Minor adjustments may occur during the academic year, subject to the decision of the Dean*
